The type of polymer used and the thickness determines the level of resistance gloves have to chemicals, abrasions, and tear. UNSUPPORTED FLOCKLINED The inside of a flocklined glove is sprayed with cotton before drying. This type of glove provides added comfort and also absorbs excess sweat from hands. An unlined glove is subjected to a process called chlorination, which makes donning the glove easier without putting any powder inside. Some people exhibit an allergic reaction to the proteins found in natural rubber, latex gloves are not recommended for them. • Comes in both unlined as well as flocklined 24 EN388 - MECHANICAL RATING OVERVIEW 1111 The purpose of a mechanical rating is to inform a worker of the levels of physical protec- tion that they can expect to get from the glove they are using. There are four mechanical threats that CE mechanical ratings addresse: These are: 1. Abrasions: Scrapes to the hand by abrasive surfaces. 2. Cuts: Lacerations to the hand by sharp blades or edges. 3. Tears: Tears to the skin caused by a protruding ragged edge. 4. Punctures: Punctures caused by protruding objects such as glass, nails or splinters.
